So you love the ease and quality of your laser printer. And you’ve discovered from our August post that your laser printer is definitely worth fixing. Now you ask yourself, Is regular maintenance necessary? The answer is ABSOLUTELY.

Just like your car, regular maintenance is essential in having your machines run smooth. You can do your part by keeping your laser printer clean. When cleaning your laser printer, make sure the printer has been turned off, is unplugged, and allowed to cool down. As always, check with the manufacturer’s instructions manual to familiarize with the gears and for the general handling of parts.

Before getting down and dirty with your laser printer, it’s a good idea to visually inspect the outside and inside for any signs of damage or wear. If something does not look right, STOP. To prevent any further or accidental damage, it is best to seek a qualified professional for an evaluation and/or repair.

Assuming all looks well, a lint free cloth is recommended for a general cleaning. Wipe off all dust and dirt on top and around the printer. Remove the paper trays, open the machine, and carefully remove the toner cartridge. As you will see, dirt builds up over time on the rollers. Those can be cleaned with a slightly dampened cloth. Many laser printers come with a small brush to aide in reaching dust, lint, or toner that may have settled in small crevices. There are disposable cloths in the market that are specially designed for printers. These can help in picking up the dust and tiny toner particles and keep them from just redistributing onto other parts.

However simple this all may seem, a general cleaning can be a daunting and tedious task. There are many components in a laser printer that need extra careful attention. To get the best performance, a thorough cleaning is absolutely required, where individual parts are carefully removed and professionally cleaned. Our A+ certified technicians can help your laser printers run efficiently with regular scheduled maintenance. We can see you annually, bi-annually, or whenever you need us. We are local to the East Bay Area, Sacramento to San Jose, San Francisco to Concord, located in Walnut Creek, but we service anywhere in California. Like in a mechanic, you want someone friendly, who understands your concerns, and who can be there when you need them.
