May retailers go all out from Thanksgiving through New Years Day to promote their sales, bargains, lay aways and other holiday specials. So, how do you grab a busy shopper’s attention?
- Rotate your signage on a periodic basis: part of your holiday adversting plan should include a rotation of window displays, sale banners and the like. This keeps your display fresh and more likely to catch the eye of a passing shopper.
- Keep your branding consistent: just because it is the red and green holiday, don’t mess with all of your brand identity by changing over your logo colors. Use holiday colors that compliment your logo and brand scheme so your holiday decorations are associated with your store.
- More is just more: use an editing eye when chosing signs, displays, wall graphics, etc. Too much visual activity will drown out your message. Focus on your target market and key items that will get shoppers in the doors. Use point of purchase, shelf tag, floor graphics and other techniques to lead buyers to specials and specific areas of interest.
Finally, don’t compromise on safety. Too much signage can block emergency lighting, egress/walkways and/or create tripping hazards or tight aisles. This may result in customer or inventory damage. Check with your local code enforcement to ensure that you are in compliance.
