Signage FAQs | How Do I Care for a Vehicle Magnet?

BY: Your Name, Your Business

Vehicle magnets are a great way to go for small businesses who use a personal vehicle and don’t want to deal with commercial auto insurance or “wearing the brand” 24/7. The biggest challenge with a vehicle magnet is getting clients to do regular maintenance to avoid damage to their vehicle’s finish, loss of the magnet and ghosting (obvious shadowing) of the paint finish.

Here are the keys to keeping your magnet, and your car, looking good:

  1. At least weekly, remove the magnet from the vehicle and clean both sides with mild soap and water to remove dirt, debris, oils, etc.
  2. Before reinstalling the magnet, clean the vehicle panel as recommended by your manufacturer. A quick rinse with soapy water and dry with a soft cloth is generally all that is required. You want to make sure that you have a clean surface to adhere the magnet.
  3. Vary the placement of the magnet on the vehicle. If you put the magnet in the same spot every time, or leave it in one place for an extended period, the painted area around the magnet will begin to fade and you will have a “ghost” spot on the vehicle when you do remove the magnet.

Following these simple steps will help you get the most out of your vehicle magnet and minimize any damage to your vehicle.
