Obviously, we all know percussion therapy isn’t a miracle worker, but what sort of results are reasonable to expect? Furthermore, if you’re planning to have percussion therapy, you’re going to know what to expect during the session as well.
So, to help you be more knowledgeable on this topic, feel free to read on!
What Percussion Therapy Can And Can’t Do
As mentioned, it can’t work miracles. What it can do is reduce the common stiffness, soreness, and swelling you experience after your workouts.
It also works knots out of your muscles and increases circulation to the area, which speeds up the healing of any small muscle tears or other injuries.
Speaking of injuries, percussion therapy will irritate more severe injuries, and we often advise against using it near your joints if you have arthritis, as it tends to increase rather than decrease the ache in this case.
Another thing percussion therapy is capable of is warming up your muscles before a workout, should you use it then. If your tendons or muscles are tight, this will loosen them up and help prevent them from getting injured while you exercise. Even if you don’t have anywhere particularly tight, it’ll improve your range of motion.
What To Expect From The Session
During the session itself, you should have certain expectations. The first is for any questions you have to be answered.
Secondly, during the session, plan on feeling a bit of an ache, especially in areas where your muscles are tight or have knots; knots are known for being a little painful to work out, after all. However, though some discomfort should be anticipated, it shouldn’t be outright painful and should bring relief.
Lastly, after your session, your muscles should be pleasantly warm and relaxed, and you should feel the difference from what they were like beforehand.
What Your Expectations Of The Fitness Center Should Be
Aside from the results and what to expect from the session itself, we know you should have expectations about the center itself as well as the percussion device used.
At Recovery Lab, for example, we make sure to not only keep up with the latest research but also ensure our percussion guns are quality ones that will have the best results when you have a session with us.
Aside from looking at the quality of the percussion guns, you should also look at their cleanliness, as these touch a lot of people over the course of a week.
Finally, you should expect the person taking care of you to be able to answer any questions you have, to know the perfect angle and pressure to use, and to be experienced like our recovery specialists are.
