When dealing with chronic muscle tension and pain, one of the first things you consider is getting more rest. Whether you’re able to accomplish this or not, the next thing you consider is getting a massage. However, part of you might worry if getting a massage while experiencing tension could be painful or even dangerous in your current state.

If you’re on the fence about whether or not to get a massage and what type to opt for, this article is for you.

How Massage Helps Chronic Muscle Tension

The right type of massage with the right professional can be helpful in easing chronic muscle tension. While some muscle tissue may initially feel a little tight or tender during a massage session, the goal is to slowly and gently release this tension to bring relief.

Physical massage helps muscle tension in multiple ways. Through proper physical manipulation, massage can help relax tight muscles, boost blood circulation in stagnant areas, break up muscle knots, and improve range of motion and flexibility.

Who Can Benefit Most from Massage Services?

Massage services are common among active individuals (e.g., athletes, students in sports, fitness enthusiasts), those who work physically demanding jobs, and even people with sedentary lifestyles who are used to sitting or lying for long periods of time.

Recovery services like these can also be useful for those who experience excess stress or anxiety, who are recovering from a recent injury or surgery, or those generally looking for a relaxing experience.

Sometimes there’s no specific rhyme or reason people decide to opt for a massage. It can be a choice people make to simply treat themselves and support their wellness journey.

Types of Massage Services Recovery Lab Offers

At Recovery Lab, we don’t offer traditional massages or deep tissue massages, but we do have services closely mimicking a massage session. These services include percussion therapy, mobility stretching, and Normatec compression therapy.

Percussion therapy and Normatec compression therapy use a vibrating tool and pulsating limb sleeves, respectively, to provide a massage-like experience. Meanwhile, mobility stretching is a guided session involving assisted movements to encourage better range of motion and less tense muscle tissue.

Additionally, we have other services to help relieve muscle pain and tightness, such as cupping therapy and cryotherapy. Cupping therapy primarily aids with muscle tightness concerning the back, while cryotherapy can relieve pain-induced muscle tension by temporarily numbing pain signals in the body.

Wellness Services vs Traditional Massage

Curious to learn how our wellness services differ from traditional massage sessions? Allow us to explain.

Traditional massages use hands-on manipulation provided by a practitioner. The primary goal is to relieve muscle tension and knots while improving physical comfort.

Our wellness services at Recovery Lab, on the other hand, use a variety of hands-on and hands-off techniques with a broader range of focus: improved mobility and flexibility, better circulation, mental relaxation, reduced muscle pain, enhanced energy levels, and more.

We’d love to discuss with you the options we have at hand. Call Recovery Lab today to learn more about the wellness services we have to help bring muscle tissue relief.
