Certified Stager’s Common Mistakes to Avoid With Home Staging When it comes to preparing a home for buyers, everyone seems to be well aware of the basics – depersonalizing, decluttering, deep cleaning, and so on. There is nothing new about the fact that home staging is one of the primary keys for a successful home sale. However, it can also be said that one wrong move with home staging will result in the exact opposite in place of helping someone sell their home. Let’s have a look at some of the most common home staging mistakes for successful home staging endeavors.
  • No proper plan: If someone asks about the biggest mistake of home staging, it is nothing but moving forward with no proper plan. After all, how will someone succeed with their home staging mission without a clear picture or idea? People who try to do everything on their own are most likely to end up making this mistake. In this case, a professional home stager will do the needful, from planning to execution.
  • Not focusing on lighting: One of the most common things people forget is to focus on home lighting. Before someone jumps into home staging, it is necessary to understand that lighting is one of the key aspects that will make a home look like so much more. Potential buyers will be attracted when the setup is airy and bright. So, opting for enough lighting is the key here. It is especially important for older homes. Adding table and floor lamps will help in creating different lighting layers. Additionally, paying attention to the place of curtains will play a huge role here. Stagers suggest hanging curtains two inches from the ceiling.
  • Not paying attention to area rugs: Whenever someone opts open floor plan, it is one of the trickiest to decorate. Having a bare floor with no decoration or nothing to warm up the floor space is a big home staging mistake. It is necessary to have area rugs for defining different home areas. Try to opt for area rugs. Changing the existing rugs could also help, specifically when pets and kids are part of the household. There is no need to go for super expensive rugs. Using inexpensive rugs will serve the purpose.
  • Placing furniture at angles: It’s better to resist the urge to put furniture at an angle. Setting furniture at angles is one of the worst things to do for home staging. Not sure why? It is because placing furniture at an angle will destroy the perspective of a space. Most people go for this with the idea that it will help make their home look bigger, but all it does is make the home look off.
We provide a complimentary Design Consultation session to the realtor (valued at $300) that they can either use or pass on to one of their clients as a housewarming gift— just one of the unique ways we stand out among other home staging consultants.
