How To Prepare for Your In-Home Newborn Session
I know that there are some photographers that insist that newborn sessions occur in the first 10 days of life. I’m not one of them. I think it’s important that mom feel rested and ready as well. That’s why I offer newborn sessions up to 3 months.
Before your scheduled session, it's essential to prepare a few things to ensure everything goes smoothly.
- Happy Baby: Make sure your newborn is recently changed and fed.
- Outfits: Sometimes, less is best. I prefer to start in a plain white onesie.
- Location: When I arrive, I will scout out your home and find the rooms with the best light.
- Clean Area: You just had a baby. Please don’t spend hours cleaning your house. I’ll move things that might be distracting.
- Siblings: Siblings are unpredictable, but don’t worry. One advantage of an in-home session is that siblings tend to be more comfortable in their environment. And, if they need a break, they can sneak off for a snack or play.
What To Expect During Your In-Home Newborn Session
Maybe it’s the old newborn nurse coming out in me, but my favorite place to photograph your newborn is in your arms. I don’t use props or do fancy poses. We may capture moments with your newborn sleeping, eating, or just chilling. If you really want some action, how about capturing bathtime?
I use natural light, so that means we will likely use the rooms with the most light. I’ll have you turn off any overhead lights or lamps and open all the curtains and blinds.
Sessions usually take around 2 hours.
My goal is to capture all the details, the tiny toes, lips, fingers, and nose. I want to showcase the bond and connection you have with your new little one.
