When you’re getting ready for a photo shoot, your outfit is the last thing you want to worry about. However, this is an important decision that will make or break your photos.

If you don’t know what to wear, don’t panic! I’ve put together a few tips to help you pick the perfect outfit for your photo shoot. I will also let you know what not to wear, so follow these tips, and you’ll be sure to make a great impression in your photos!

Consider the Purpose of the Shoot

The first thing to consider is the purpose of the photoshoot. Is it for engagement photos, family Christmas photos, a senior portrait session, or something else?

Once you know the occasion or theme of the shoot, it will be easier to pick an outfit to fit what you’re trying to capture in your photos.

You might want a more romantic look if it’s an engagement photoshoot. For family portraits or Christmas photos, opt for coordinating colors to stand out in the pictures.

Coordinate with Each Other

Once you know the shoot’s theme, it’s time to coordinate with your party.

If you include prints or patterns in your outfit, make sure they match and complement each other. This is achieved by having a similar color scheme or mixing and matching colors.

Also, remember everyone doesn’t have to wear the same outfit – let your personalities shine through with accessories! Stores often have clothing collections in various colors, so take advantage of those.

Make Sure Things Fit Properly

Fashion is one thing, but comfort is also essential. It’s imperative your clothes fit correctly, and you are comfortable. If you are uncomfortable, it will show in the photos.

Make sure you feel confident and wear things that flatter you. Try it before the shoot to ensure it fits and complements your body type.

Go For Timeless, Neutral Looks

When it comes to colors, aim for neutral palettes. Choose warm earth tones like browns, tans, and greens. These colors will give the photos a timeless feel and won’t be outdated in a few years.

Avoid wearing all black or white if possible – it’s too harsh for most photo shoots. Instead, add depth and interest with textures, patterns, or accessories like scarves and belts.

What NOT to Wear to a Photoshoot

Family

Skip the baseball caps and hoodies with logos, brands, cartoons, or public figures. This goes for children as well. Your little princess might look incredibly adorable in her Frozen shirt, but do you really want to memorialize a free advertisement for a Disney movie above your mantle?

Also, minimize bold patterns, bright colors, and neon hues. These kinds of colors may be distracting in photos and will take away from the overall impression.

You should also avoid wearing baggy, loose-fitting clothing. This might seem like a no-brainer, but when you’re about to have your photo taken, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget about these crucial details.

Finally, think twice before wearing brand-new clothes to your photo shoot. You don’t want wrinkles or factory creases in the fabric because it will look pronounced on camera. Instead, pick something you know will lay nicely and create a great impression!

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right outfit for your photoshoot is essential to create stunning photos which will last a lifetime. Following these tips should help you pick a flattering outfit for everyone in the photo that looks great on camera.
