Preparing for a Newborn Photo Session: 8 Tips!

Newborn with family

When you’re pregnant, one of the things you look forward to most is your newborn photo session. You’ve probably seen all sorts of beautiful images on social media and can’t wait to have professional photos taken of your own little one.

But sometimes, when the time comes for the session, it might be tough to feel your best. Here are 8 tips to help you prepare and feel your best during your newborn photo session!

  1. Prepare Your Outfit and a Few Baby Outfits Ahead of Time

Nothing is worse than stressing about what you’ll wear for the session when you’re already tired and overwhelmed. Choose an outfit in advance you feel confident wearing, and pick out a few outfits for your baby, too – something cozy and comfy that won’t take away from their adorable features.

  1. Try to Get a Good Night’s Sleep Before the Session

Make sure you get a full night’s sleep the night before your newborn photo session. Well, as full a night’s sleep as you can get with a newborn!

  1. Eat Something Before the Session

Don’t wait until after the session to eat something. You don’t want to feel hungry or lightheaded during the shoot, as this will affect your mood and energy levels. Make sure you have a light snack before the session to remain focused and alert throughout the shoot.

  1. Have Snacks and Water on Hand

Sometimes it’s hard to stay energized during a lengthy photo session, so have a few snacks and drinks on hand just in case you start to feel drained, especially if you are nursing. Something like an energy bar or fruit will give you the energy needed to get through the session.

  1. Don’t Feel Rushed to Schedule a Session in the First Couple of Weeks

You may have read on the internet that you need to schedule your session in the first two weeks after baby arrives. I don’t actually subscribe to that thinking. I remember that the first couple of weeks were a blur. You’re getting used to have a new human to feed, change, and care for. It’s a lot! Not to mention that you are recovering from childbirth, which isn’t easy. That’s why I offer newborn sessions up to 12 weeks. I want you to feel recovered and at your best for the session.

  1. Take Breaks If Needed

Having a newborn is exhausting, and you may need to take breaks for feeding or diaper changes throughout the session. That’s ok – I understand and will be there to capture all the precious moments with your new bundle of joy.

  1. Ask Questions and Make Suggestions

If you have any concerns or suggestions during the session, don’t be afraid to ask. I’m more than happy to accommodate your requests and ensure you and your family are comfortable throughout the process.

  1. Enjoy Yourself!

Finally, remember this is a special moment to be enjoyed. While it’s important to get beautiful photos of your baby, remember these moments will never exist again in quite the same way. So, take it all in and enjoy yourself – you deserve it!

I hope these tips help you feel your best during your newborn photo session! If you have any additional questions or would like to book your newborn session, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to chat more and help you capture these special moments with your family.

Happy snuggles!
