The term “milestone session” has been popping up a lot lately. But what exactly is a milestone session and when should you book one? In this article, we are going to tell you all you need to know about milestone sessions.

What is a Milestone Session?

A Milestone Session is a photography session that takes place around typical infant/toddler milestones. During the session, we will be focused on capturing natural photographs of the little one to document the details of their new skills, whether it’s sitting, rolling on the floor, crawling, or maybe even walking. We also focus on the growing connection of your little one within the family, so parents and siblings can most definitely be included.

When Should I Schedule Sessions?

Babies grow and change so much in the first year, and some parents want to make sure to capture all of the changes. Typical times to schedule milestone sessions are at three months, six months, 9 months, and one year. Three months - By three months most infants have learned to roll over and are smiling socially. They are usually much more alert and interactive than they were as a newborn, and a session at this time will focus on capturing those interactions with the other family members. Six months - Most babies will start to sit independently around six months of age. They have usually discovered their hands and feet. This is a great time to get photos showing off this new skill. Up to this point, most photos of the infant have either been in mom or dad's arms or lying down. Once your little one is sitting you get photos from a different perspective. Nine months - Get ready. Your little one is probably on the go by this point. Most babies are crawling, and some may be getting ready to walk.  You won't want to miss out on photos of these milestones. Twelve months - Many little ones walk by the time they turn a year old. This is a great time to catch those first wobbly steps. It's also time to capture their first birthday, perhaps with a cake smash session. Every baby's development is different, so these are just guidelines.
