So you’ve decided it’s time to schedule a family photography session. Now what? Well, it’s time to choose an amazing location, and the Bay Area has plenty to choose from. I tell clients that choosing the location for their session is only limited by their imagination!
The Bay Area has beautiful beaches, majestic redwood groves, flower gardens, and more! Here are just a few spots to consider for your next session in nature.
1. Baker Beach
An iconic winter photo can be taken from this beautiful beach in San Francisco. Baker Beach offers the Golden Gate Bridge as a background option. You can even explore other backdrops with the dirt trails leading down to the beach. Roll up your pants and dip your toes in the water, but don’t forget to bring a jacket because the breeze can be chilly!
2. Markham Arboretum
Located in Concord, this arboretum offers a wonderful photoshoot option for families, especially in the fall when the leaves are amazing. Plenty of shade is found throughout the park with backdrops including fallen leaves, fences, bridges, and more.
3. China Camp State Park
A San Rafael location with plenty of unique backdrops, China Camp State Park offers families a top photoshoot spot. The beachy background provides a great spot, while the docks, older boats, and eucalyptus groves provide even more options. Prepare to get your feet wet here!
4. Corona Heights Park
Another San Francisco location, Corona Heights Park is a bit harder to get to, but worth it. The hike is a bit steep if you want to get to the top of the hill. However, once you’re there, you can use the city as your backdrop.
5. Battery Spencer and Vista Point
Easy to access locations, Battery Spencer and Vista Point offer wonderful views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. With the right timing, you can even catch a bit of fog to make for a unique family photo for the holidays.
6. Tilden Park
Found in Berkeley, Tilden Park is home to Lake Anza, which is known as one of the best photo spots in the Bay Area. The lake provides unique backdrop options, while the park provides plenty of other good options.
7. Joaquin Miller Park
Found off Highway 13 in Oakland, Joaquin Miller Park provides plenty of shade and very lush, green colors throughout. The beautiful redwoods make an amazing backdrop for your session with plenty of areas to explore.
