Before the session

It is important for me to get to know my clients before their session and I offer a pre-session consultation for all of my clients.  This is the time for me to hear what the clients want from their Lifestyle session and what their expectations are. We discuss locations, wardrobe and the family members that will be included in the session.  I ask to know at least one thing about every one that will be photographed.  This helps me connect with each family member. Mina mentioned that she had a new baby at home.  She was excited, as this would be their first photography session as a new family.  She wanted the baby to be able to sit independently so I suggested that we schedule the session when the baby was around 6 months of age. The family loves being outdoors, so an outdoor location was ideal.  I suggested Piedmont Park in Piedmont, a beautiful park with grassy areas, trees, benches, paths, a water feature, and just the right amount of shade. We discussed the best time of day for their session.  Babies are often fussy in the evening so I often suggest morning sessions with families with little ones.

During the session

It can be stressful for parents of infants during a session as they are often worried that the baby isn’t smiling or looking at the camera.  The beauty of lifestyle photography is that often the best images are those where the subjects aren't looking at the camera.  Beautiful emotion is conveyed just interacting with and playing with your little one. My goal is for every client to have beautiful images, but also to remember how much fun they had during their session!
