Do you value your independence? If you were having trouble getting around, getting dressed, or driving would you ask for help? If the answer is yes, then a caregiver can help. Caregivers make it possible for people to stay at home after an injury. They help people perform the activities of daily living that able bodied individuals take for granted. A caregiver can also do the things a senior no longer wants to do… like the laundry, make the bed, or do the dishes. At the same time, our goal is not to simply “do” for someone. As Maria Montessori once said, "Everything you do for me, you take away from me." A caregiver and care recipient relationship is built on trust and patience. One of the traps someone can fall into when assisting a person with capacity challenges, is jumping in, and not allowing the other person enough time to perform a task. It can be liberating to have help nearby, someone to assist and provide a safe environment for a senior or disabled individual to do something independently. As we age and/or lose the ability to perform certain tasks, the ego takes a hit. The things we enjoy become more challenging, as a result we get less enjoyment out of life. Caregivers can help rebuild the ego and empower individuals to reclaim their hobbies. Activities that were once enjoyed can be a part of their lives again; caregivers facilitate independence and foster a mutually beneficial relationship. Our caregivers serve the East Bay including Oakland, Piedmont, Berkeley, and Emeryville. We also regularly travel to El Cerrito, Albany and Kensington.  Call today for a free consultation or if you have any questions about caregivers.
