We specialize in home care and senior care services, and serve the entire East Bay Area, including Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, Piedmont, Alameda and San Leandro. One of the areas that we specialize in is hospital discharge assistance. When people leave the hospital after surgery, or come out of the hospital to go on hospice care, they often need a way to get from the hospital to their home or place of assistance. They also need help when they get there. So we help them with transportation from the hospital, as well as with other daily tasks that need to get done while the patient is recovering. If someone has suffered from a broken leg, for example, and they need to have a full leg cast put on, - rendering them immobile and without the capabilities to handle daily tasks on their own - they will need help.  If there is nobody that can help properly care for the individual, you may need a home care professional. A home care specialist provides the assistance needed for the individual to not only get from the hospital to their home, but to also help with everything else, like running errands, picking up prescriptions, shopping for food and preparing meals, using the restroom, bathing, and anything else that needs to be done to properly care for the individual. Some common types of surgery where hospital discharge services are needed are joint replacement surgeries, heart surgeries and eye surgeries. As you can imagine, not being able to use one or both eyes can make a lot of tasks extremely difficult. The most obvious one that stands out is driving. In fact, it is illegal to drive if your vision is impaired.  So don't try and drive yourself home after eye surgery! We can also help with heavy lifting or bending over to get things. Bending over or lifting heavy objects can cause extra strain on the eye, which can potentially lead to problems after eye surgery. Knee joint replacement surgery is also a common surgery where home care services are needed. Without the use of their knees, a patient will be limited to a wheelchair or perhaps crutches or a cane. Also, heart surgery. Depending upon the procedure, heart surgery recovery times can range from a few days to up to six or eight weeks. If a small stent was put in place, a patient may be back to most daily tasks within a few days, but will still need assistance for at least a few days after a stent has been put in place. If someone has had a more complex procedure, like open heart surgery, they may need assistance for a long period of time before they are back to full strength and able to handle all of their daily tasks. If you have any questions about hospital discharge assistance services, we can help. We would be more than happy to assist with the hospital discharge procedure, or just answer any questions that you may have.
