As the holidays quickly approach sometime we get so caught up in work, school and our other day-to-day activities and forget the true meaning of the holidays. There is nothing better than a big thanksgiving feast on thanksgiving day, the turkey, the cranberry sauce, the pumpkin pie and the apple cider! As we celebrate this day with our families and friends we must not forget to give thanks for all that we do have and stop paying attention to what we don’t. As the decorations go up and the food comes out why not help your child see how lucky he/she is. Here is a fun activity to show your kid the true meaning of the holiday spirit and receive a new beautiful decoration for years to come.
What you will need;
- Brown, red, orange and yellow construction paper or color of choice
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Googly eyes or paper eyes
Directions;
- Have your little one stand on top of the brown construction paper. Trace their feet with the pencil, do not trace around toes. These two pieces will make up the turkey’s body.
- Have your child place his/her hands on each color paper. Trace around the child’s hands on red, orange, and yellow construction paper. These 6 traces will make up the turkey’s feathers.
- Glue the two traces of the feet together. Put the heels together to form the head. Do not stack completely on top of each other because the excess paper will make the body
- Cut out a round wattle and an orange beak. Glue the wattle, beak, and googly eyes or paper eyes to the turkey’s head ( where the heels of the head meet on the brown piece of paper. Make two legs from paper and glue them to the back of the body.
- Glue the hand prints on the back of the turkey to make the feathers
- OPTIONAL; have your child write something he is thankful for on each finger or handprint on the feathers. Write your childs age on the back so you know how big their hands and feet were at that age! (=
