At The Learning Tree in Livermore, we know that selecting a preschool is daunting for parents. You’re looking for an environment that will help your child learn and grow—and also for caregivers who you can trust.
To meet those goals, it’s important to ask LOTS of questions. Our staff at The Learning Tree is here to put your mind at ease. We’re confident that The Learning Tree’s program is top notch, and we love to show off our work!
To help, here are a few questions you can ask as you look at potential preschool programs for your child. We’ll also include how we answer these questions.
Are your teachers credentialed?
In California, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing certifies preschool teachers after reviewing each person’s education credentials, including whether they have completed a specific amount of coursework in child development.
At The Learning Tree, our lead teachers all meet the State of California guidelines. While aides are not required to have the same credentials as lead teachers, we carefully train all our staff and encourage them to participate in continuing education so that they can advance their careers.
What are the school hours?
Preschools can offer full- and half-day programs, and they may or may not offer before or after care.
The Learning Tree provides care each weekday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. (with the exception of some holidays). Our school also offers year-round care, including summer camps for children through first-grade entry.
What is a typical day like at the school?
A structured day where a child knows what to expect can help him or her thrive. At the same time, having free time to express themselves also lets children’s curiosity blossom.
We like to provide a blend of education and play time for children throughout our day. The schedule varies depending on the classroom and age group, but all of our children can expect a mix of developmentally appropriate play-based experiences each day at The Learning Tree! When you visit, your child’s lead teacher can give you the best picture of what his or her day will be like.
Is my child ready for this program?
You know your child best and understand his or her developmental needs. Look for schools that will fit where your child is right now and will help him or her grow. Check the school’s policy on things your child may need like helping with potty training or accommodating any food allergies or special needs.
With our small class sizes, The Learning Tree staff is able to get to know each of the children in our care. We can address their individual needs and help them to thrive and grow in our small, caring school.
What is your educational philosophy for young children?
Young children learn best through play, which helps them to explore their world and develop a positive self-image. When visiting a school, find out how they approach teaching young children.
The Learning Tree’s philosophy is that meaningful play is the foundation of early childhood learning. We encourage curiosity, discovery, and problem solving along the way, allowing for individual growth and development of a positive self-image as we prepare children for kindergarten.
What is the class size?
Student-to-teacher ratio is an important measure to see how much personal attention your child will receive on a daily basis.
The class size at The Learning Tree varies depending on the age group. We keep our ratio low knowing that personal attention is critical at this stage. When you visit our center, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the team who will care for your child as well as other on our well-qualified and trained staff.
