Make education fun with these spooky Halloween projects for preschoolers!
Paper plates can be used in many different ways. The Learning Tree Pre-K
teachers have used their large paper plates for fine motor skill
development. By punching holes into the sides of the plate using a single
hole puncher, you can have the children lace white string to create a web.
This activity is fun and engaging but also serves a purpose. Children will
being to strengthen the necessary muscles in their hands that also help with
writing skills. These fine motor skills build the pincher grasp muscles
which is the primary muscle used for writing. By strengthening these
muscles, children will develop better handwriting skills at a faster pace.
At The Learning Tree Preschool, we also want to incorporate fun with our
education. Children can spice up this project by painting the plate and
creating spiders using their handprints like they did in Ms. Jessica’s
Sequoia classroom. Or they could cut the center of the plate and paint the
trim black while placing a hanging spider like they did in Ms. Carolyn’s
Redwoods classroom. Either project accomplishes the same skills in fine
motor development.

Other projects you’ll see at The Learning Tree Preschool in Livermore will
include our fun ideas from the Toddler classroom. Ms. Donna and Ms. Alisa
created a unique mummy door using strips of white butcher paper and
glow-in-the-dark eyes from the Dollar Tree. This great way to create an
exciting Halloween themed door is both cheap and easy! The teachers are
having a blast in the Sprouts with all the Halloween fun themes. Their
Frankenstein handprints are not only a cute project, it is also a nice
keepsake for families to remember just how little their toddlers were in
October of 2014.
