Project: Remove and replace damaged window film Customer: Disgruntled Residential Homeowner Location: Largo, FL. An unusual situation arose that gave me an unusual opportunity to do a window film installation pro-bono. Helping folks make their home or business feel more comfortable always makes me feel good about what I do, but stepping up to help this gal in Largo was especially rewarding. She had hired a local contractor to do a bit of remodeling in her home. During the process, one of his crew accidentally damaged an expansive picture window overlooking her pool. I was contacted by the contractor to fix the window film. We went to the home to remove what we were told was one piece of solar window film and replace with a new film of a similar shade.  Our initial evaluation uncovered a few added issues. The film was actually impact window film (4mil tinted) and the caulking used to seal it was painters caulking, which was not the correct caulking to use. To correct the situation, we needed to replace and reseal with the proper material. This added materials, time, and overall labor. In addition we found that the two smaller sets of windows on the sides of the picture window had one pane of glass that was cracked. Obviously, my original plan of attack had to change. Though totally unexpected, at this point we were going to have to make a few trips to accomplish all that needed to be done.
