In search of some privacy for their glass window offices, Abilene Christian University knew they had a great opportunity to promote their corporate/campus culture at the same time. They contacted Visual Dynamics Sign and Image Solutions to bring their vision to life.
Abilene Christian University is developing students who will be leaders while providing unique, Christ-centered experiences at their campuses. They inspire their graduates to apply their faith to their area of study while creatively solving problems and to be global citizens.
They had 16 large windows that needed to be covered with window graphics. All these windows were of various dimensions, but most of them were 72” tall by 50” wide. These were all interior windows, and they wanted to give their office workers on the other side some privacy while allowing them to continue to see what was going on in the hallway outside. They chose to use 80/20 perforated vinyl. This ratio of perforations means that 80% of the vinyl surface remained solid, while 20% would have holes in it. There are different ratios of perforations available to select from depending on a clients’ objectives, images and usage of vinyl.
ACU Perforated Window Graphics
The most challenging portion of this project was the inability to conduct our free onsite consultation. The ACU campus is located about 180 miles west of our office; that is about a 3-hour drive. This meant we could not see the window surfaces, take measurements or photos, nor could we see the area the windows were in to plan for any other challenges that could arise. We provided the customer with detailed specifications on how to measure the windows for us. Working as a team, you can see the final products turned out amazing!
ACU Perforated Window Graphics /Campus culture
They selected bold, vibrant colors to have printed onto the perforated vinyl. Before we could install the window graphics once we arrived, we had to prepare each window surface. Failure to do so properly would have resulted in the vinyl not staying secure to the glass. It may appear to be excessive, but it is essential to complete every step of the process. Each window was washed with a solution, then scraped with a razor and finally a rise of rubbing alcohol was used ensure all dirty and residue was removed. All 16 windows had their perforated vinyl installed by directly applying the vinyl to the exterior side of the glass. It was a long day for our installation team, but all their hard work paid off. The ACU hallways are bright, informative and the office works can enjoy some newfound privacy.
