Project: High School Senior Big Heads

As homecoming is fast approaching and the fall sports season is in full swing, it’s time to get loud and proud by showing some school spirit. One of the best ways to do that? Big heads! They’re big, they’re loud, and they give a special shout out to your favorite player. Whether you’re cheering on your best friend, your kid, or your significant other, big heads are the perfect way to give your loved ones a sign that they’re your number one.
At one particular local high school, Cy-Falls, there is no shortage of spirit for their senior players! We recently created a set of big heads - one for every senior player in the high school’s athletics program - that is sure to be the ultimate court-side prop.
Like most big heads that we design, we got the pictures of the players’ heads from the parents of the Cy-Falls sports teams, most of which were senior pictures or sports pictures, and cropped them down so that it was just the head and hair visible. We formatted the printer to fit four or five heads on each piece of 4’x8’ foam board material, and then die cut each head to fit the shape of each face. Obviously, considering that every person has a unique face shape and size, each of big heads was slightly different, but the general dimensions measured out at 36 inches tall and 24 inches wide - a pretty decent sized head if you ask us!
Foam board was a great solution for these foam heads because, not only is it affordable, but it’s also lightweight - a huge priority for something that you’re going to be waving around in the air for the duration of a game. Although foam board can be easily damaged if handled too roughly, with proper care, it can last for more than 2 years without losing its quality; these big heads will be around to cheer on players at every game this season and for many more to come!
