We received a call from the Lyme Art Association, located in Old Lyme, CT, concerning the need for a bronze plaque for a dedication to one wing of their gallery to one of their long standing artists and Elected Artist by the Lyme Art Association by his wife. They wanted the plaque to look similar to others in the building, as well as, offer some options the artist’s wife to choose from in order to offer some uniqueness to the plaque. For my first meeting with the Director of Development, I brought samples and examples of the various options available to choose from. I also took measurements and photos of the existing plaque to use in the layout of this one.
In the picture above, you can see the finished plaque we made for the Lyme Art Association. The picture below shows it mounted on the gallery wall near paintings by the artist. The classic look and durability of a bronze plaque is an ideal choice when you need a long-term solution for a dedication plaque like this one.
The Lyme Art Association is a vibrant art center with a gallery where professional as well as developing artists mount major exhibitions throughout the year. They also have affordable art classes and workshops. Visit the historic Lyme Art Association on your next visit to Old Lyme CT – Where Art Lives!
Striving to keep some consistency with the other plaques in the gallery we provided initial proof to the Director who reviewed it with artist’s wife. They provided us back some minor changes the wording and a decision finishes and style. The result was a ¼” thick, 18” L x 12” H cast bronze plaque with a classic burgundy background color with a sand finish, single line border, and ¾” rosettes to cover the mounting screws. The plaque was installed directly to the gallery wall as shown in the photo below. Given the weight of the plaque it is important to ensure you use the proper mounting technique. In this case the fasteners would be going into wood so we used wood screws to mount the plaque.
