At Solar Reflections Services, we offer the best commerical and residential window films available for heat/glare reduction as well as privacy, but there is also a third and lesser-known category of film that we offer as well – Security Film. This exact category of film has multiple uses, but is generally used for security and/or keeping glass together in the event of breakage. Whether it be for tempering bathroom windows to pass a new home inspection, or for protecting schools and police stations, security film offers extremely impressive results for a simple window film, all while being practically invisible. While the average consumer has probably never heard of this film before, its abilities and uses are worth researching, and can be priceless when it comes to protecting whatever is on the other side of the glass. As stated earlier, security film can be used for different situations, but serves the general purpose of keeping glass together and in the window frame in the event it is broken, instead of shattering into hundreds of pieces and falling onto floors and people. Our security films, manufactured by Avery Dennison and Huper Optik, are primarily used for preventing or midigating vandalism, smash-and-grab robberies, and forced entry/active shooter situations. Additionally, these security films are also clear, meaning that no one – customers and criminals alike – will ever know that it is even there, giving you peace of mind without compromise. But what if you wanted a security film that also offered privacy to your windows? Does such a film exist? The short answer is yes, and we are going to take an in-depth look at this specific film in this week’s Job Review.
The Job Review for this week takes us to a childcare facility in the Birmingham area, where our clients were in need of both security and privacy. Due to these specific needs, we recommended and installed Silver 12 mil. security film to the entire front side of the building, providing both privacy to the inside of the building, as well as enhanced security and strength to any reachable and ground-level panes of glass. Regarding the film itself, Silver 12 mil is a 12 millimeter security film that has a silver, mirrored finished when viewed from the outside, and a darker, blueish hue when viewed from the inside. This specific install was also paired with a structural sealant around the edges of each piece of film to keep the pane of glass itself attatched to the frame of the window in the event of an attempted forced entry. Once completed, our customers were left satisfied and safer than when we arrived, which will always be a top priority of Solar Reflections Services during security film installations.
