Instead, what we see most is a failure in the headlight assembly. Prius headlights are known to go on the fritz, sometimes going out randomly, one at a time or going dark altogether. While a new bulb will occasionally fix the problem, we usually have to install a new assembly to produce lasting results. Electrical Problems In an effort to achieve a higher level of environmental focus, Toyota began using a soy-based coating to cover the wires which power the Prius’ electrical systems. This coating is more eco-friendly, but it also isn’t a great solution since it’s prone to be chewed by rodents. On more than one occasion, we have worked on Priuses with electrical issues which stem from this issue. Luckily, we’re experienced in electrical components and can make the necessary replacements quickly in most cases. Hybrid System Malfunctioning In some Prius models, the system which regulates the hybrid nature of the vehicle can malfunction. This can cause key components to not work properly, and even render the vehicle useless if the issue is severe. Oil Consumption Some of our clients noticed the oil level light coming on regularly in their Priuses, and they had to frequently add more oil to keep the levels satisfactory.
