Nothing is more scary than driving up to a red light, pressing down on the brakes, and nothing happens. If you see a car crash on television, there is a high level of certainty one of the people involved did not have a working break. When on the streets, you are not in Nascar, you will need to stop from time to time, and if you are unable to, it puts you and everyone else at extreme risk. So always pay attention to any signs your brakes are going bad, as there are a few ways to realize before you get on the road.

Below will look at common reasons for failing breaks.

Common reasons for failing breaks.

Here are a few common reasons for your car’s brakes to go bad.

  1. Faltering brake cylinder – this cylinder is part of the overall braking system. What makes this part so important is it the brake fluid gets compressed in this part. If this fluid does not get compressed, then the liquid does not do its job in exerting the force on the brake pedals. So for everything to go as expected, this cylinder must be in working order.
  2. Brake fluid – As mentioned above, the fluid is essential to the braking system as it transfers the force you apply onto the brake pedal. Without this, when you press down on the brakes, the pressure is not applied at all or adequately. The good thing is the naked eye could notice this, as you will see the fluid leaking from the car. Always look beneath your car before driving to catch any liquid on the ground.
  3. Brake booster – When you press on your brakes, the force you apply is not enough to make a vehicle stop. The brake booster “boosts the pressure you are applying to the break. Without this piece, your vehicle will not get adequate force, meaning you may come to more of a gliding stop than a sudden one.

Remember these issues, as you could notice some of them before driving. You want to get into the habit of seeing these issues before you drive because the last thing you want is to start moving and then realize your brake fluid is leaking or your broken booster is busted. If any of these issues were to occur, there is very little you could do on your own, so it would be best to take them in to get serviced. Do not try and think you could manage through it, as this will only lead to you and the people around you being in danger.
