Whether you have had a car for decades or just bought one, maintenance is essential.

Read more to find out some important DIY car maintenance tips for your vehicle.

  1. Inspect your car periodically

Walk around your car at least once a week and inspect for any body damage. Check your tires for cuts and punctures. Lastly, you should also check every lock and window.

  1. Keep a check on your air filter

Air filters get clogged if they get loose, and that will create a lot of problems. Air filters block contaminants from entering the engine to keep it running smoothly. However, if they get too dirty, it can reduce airflow in the engine, reducing your car’s power, fuel economy, and performance.  Try to replace your air filters every 12,000 miles.

  1. Tire pressure is important

Checking your tire pressure is important, it impacts your fuel economy. It also impacts your comfort and handling of the car. Read your manual to know your recommended tire pressure. Generally, try and check up on your tire pressure once a week.

  1. Take care of your engine’s exterior

As important it is to clean your car’s insides, it’s also important to work on the exterior.  If you do not invest enough time, chances are dust will accumulate in your engine.

  1. Protect your headlights

Check your headlights at least once a month. Park it in front of a wall and check both of them. Make sure they are working properly and are still well-positioned. You can even ask your friend to check your brake lights.

  1. Check your battery

Your car battery is one of the most significant components of your car. It provides an electrical current for starting your engine and other electronics on your car. If you live in an area that has extreme temperatures, it may impact your battery; so try to conduct a battery test regularly.

  1. Change the oil

Changing the oil tourney is essential in keeping your engine running. You can check it each month or as it is directed to your car’s manual.

You can even do this yourself or if you have a busy schedule, you can always take it to a nearby service center. If you choose to do it yourself, make sure you learn how to properly drain and dispose of the oil.

  1. Carry automotive tools with you

Always have some basic car tools with you so you can maintain your car in case of any problems. For example, fixing a leak promptly is very important as it might lead to engine damage. Other tools that you should carry are gloves, waterproof silicone tape, electrical tape, a screwdriver, a flashlight, and wire cutters.

Remember these are just a few tips of the many that you can follow to keep your vehicle up and running at all times.
