Not sure whether your vehicle needs an oil change? Keep reading to find out.

Every automobile engine is designed differently. Hence, each car has its own specific requirements pertaining to the type of oil they need and when an oil change is required. Not meeting those specifications can make your new car warranty void.

If you want to learn whether your vehicle needs an oil change or not, keep reading.

When to Change the Oil

Since every car has its own unique requirements, you’ll need to check the automaker’s manual to know how often you should change the oil. The manual covers everything about your car operation and maintenance. Don’t rely on guidance from auto mechanics who earn from servicing or on past experiences because things have changed.

Many SUVs, cars, and pickups come with service reminder monitors that will alert you when an oil change is needed. They record the number of miles traveled as well as track how the vehicle is being driven to decide when to alert the drivers for an oil change. Take your car to a local auto repair company as soon as you notice this alert.

Checking Oil Levels

Make sure you keep an eye on the oil level of your vehicle engine. Check the oil level at least once a month, and seek immediate repairs as soon as you detect an oil leak.

You can easily check the oil level using a dipstick, but before you do, ensure that the vehicle is parked on level ground. If the engine has recently been running, stay cautious of the hot spots in the hood.

Open the car’s hood with the engine switched off and locate the dipstick. Pull out the dipstick and wipe the oil from its end before inserting it back in place. Then, pull it out again and examine both sides of the dipstick to see where the oil is at the end. Every dipstick is designed to indicate the correct oil level. If the oil level is below the minimum mark, an oil change is needed.

Besides, pay close attention to the color of the oil. It should appear black or brown. If it contains a milky, light appearance, the coolant might be leaking into the engine. If you see any metal particles in the oil, it’s an indication of internal engine damage. In either case, you should immediately take your car to a local, reliable auto service provider.

If the oil color appears black or brown and you don’t detect any of the above issues, your vehicle doesn’t need an oil change for now. Wipe off the oil from the dipstick again and insert it back into the tube, ensuring that it’s properly sealed.
