Why do we use frosted or etched glass effects?  Very commonly, the “etched” effect is used for a company name or logo appearing as a frosted print over clear glass.  How many times have you seen a clear glass office door with the occupant’s name emblazoned on it in a frosted or etched fashion?  It’s effective, but a little bit boring after a while and sometimes difficult to read, don’t you think? Sign-makers can help to dress up and vary this technique. Instead of a clear glass door or window with frosted glass verbiage or a logo, it is possible to do the reverse and create a frosted glass door with a removable film that provides the verbiage or logo in clear form.   Not only does this technique provide necessary information needed, it adds to the privacy of the space beyond. Maybe go for a different effect. Frosted glass can be used decoratively as well as to add information such as hours of operation or the company mission statement for customers or vendors to readily see.  Tell your customers and clients who you are and what you do. Ever sit in an office and get blinded by glare or direct sunlight? A frosted glass surface will allow sunlight in but reduce or eliminate the harsh glare from too direct sunlight into a workspace or shop.  The reduction will also help prevent premature aging of items that are subject to degradation by ultraviolet light by diffusing harsh sunlight and drastically cutting back on harmful UV rays. You may want to consider options beyond frosted versus clear glass effects.  A frosted or matte type film can be printed with color to add even more to the entry way to an office or conference room.  It is great for reducing glare from outside windows or to act as a privacy screen, but it is also superb for advertising or sending a message.   You can even use exterior light to transform the glass surface to something a bit more dramatic on the inside by adding color in the form of artwork or even a stained glass appearance for a church.  Use the sun and use the film to provide a lighting effect that gives you the opportunity to affect the mood. Think also about interior light projecting outward. The reverse effect can be dramatic as well.  If you wish to enhance your storefront during evening hours with color or design to attract a customer’s eyes, consider the effect of diffused light through the frosted glass to attract attention – making your storefront a veritable large scale light box.  Make it welcoming to your prospects. Ditch those window accessories that get in the way. Films are available that require no adhesive and can be reused on your glass surfaces – and they can be cleaned with a typical glass cleaner.  Get rid of the dusty blinds and cords.  Use a window film that you can tailor to your needs and create the privacy and light reduction you require at the same time.
