What? Have we gone crazy over here at SMD Insurance? Well the pandemic has certainly made everyone a little pent up, but we are still pretty sane and calm when it comes to insurance! Then why do we say that insurance is more like Pizza than Vegetable oil? 
When you buy insurance, there are basic coverage’s and limits that come with most policies kind of like cheese pizza. You can have a basic insurance plan and you can have a cheese pizza. Most likely, neither will rock your world. When ordering Pizza, you may be more in the mood for something like Hawaiian Holiday pizza or even a Meat Lovers special, and often the everything including the kitchen sink Combination is the only pizza that will satisfy you.
Insurance is very similar! You can buy a car insurance policy that meets the state minimum limits for Liability (cheese pizza), but then if you do have an accident where you are at fault, you will have to come up with the money to repair your vehicle. You will also have to pay for the tow to get your damaged car to the repair shop, and you if you need to rent a car, all of this will be at your expense. All of a sudden, that cheese pizza isn’t looking so good, is it?!
With a “combination pizza” car insurance policy, collision coverage would be included and so would towing and rental car reimbursement! You could save thousands of dollars just by being a little more discrimination about what type of insurance you choose! For a few bucks more, you could be savoring a much tastier situation not unlike that combo pizza instead of the cheese pie…
So, where does vegetable oil fit in? Many people buy insurance like they do vegetable oil, not knowing the ingredients as it all pretty much tastes the same. While the brands and labels may be different, the oil itself is just vegetable oil, plain and simple. Insurance however is customizable like pizza. It’s definitely not vegetable oil even though many people think it is!
