Limit of Liability – this the amount of insurance you buy in case you are considered to be at-fault in an accident. It covers the cost of bodily injury and property damage to others.
Collision Coverage – This covers your vehicle for damage that occurs while your vehicle is being driven. If you have a loan on your vehicle, you will likely need to carry this coverage.
Comprehensive Coverage – This covers theft or damage to your vehicle at all other times than when it is being driven. If your vehicle is vandalized, broken into, hit by a falling tree, or stolen it will be covered if you have Comprehensive on your policy.
Deductible – there is a deductible on your comprehensive and collision coverage. The deductible is the amount you pay toward the loss. So, if your car is broken into and you have a $250 deductible, the insurance company will pay for repairs exceeding $250.
All of these items affect your premium, so we recommend you decide the limit of liability and whether or not to purchase comprehensive and collision coverage at deductibles that you are comfortable with before looking for the lowest price.
