Saving Saving Saving on Car Insurance!! The claims are astounding! Every advertisement promises great savings – either you can save hundreds or double digit percentages every time you shop! 
The reason for this type of advertising is plain and simple, it gets our attention. Most of us really don’t want to spend too much on our car insurance, so the advertising agencies that work for the insurance companies use this message to trigger activity for their sales teams. It must work because all of them use the same tactic. 
Let’s look at this more closely – first, if you could really save so much every time you shop, why not shop every month and keep saving until you are no longer paying any premium? Well of course this isn’t going to happen! We are insurance brokers and part of our job is to shop insurance for our clients. We do it daily! Bottom line, we switch carriers for far less than 10% of the cases we shop. This is because you can always lower premium by reducing coverage, but the reality is that most clients don’t want to reduce their coverage! If you take off the comp and collision on your car insurance, the premium WILL GO DOWN, but when you have have an accident, you may need to pay thousands for the damage to your car instead of the few dollars per month that collision coverage costs – some people are ok with this and we will write the policy accordingly. Most however, are NOT okay with this type of outcome and would rather pay the few dollars now and be covered when “it” happens.
