You have probably heard some television and radio advertisements offering to charge for your car insurance by the mile as opposed to the traditional method which is to buy insurance for an unlimited amount of miles.  While this may sound like a new/better way to buy car insurance, it's really the same method with a slightly different spin. Most insurance companies will ask the agent to provide the estimated annual miles that the insured party will drive  each insured vehicle. The mileage provided will then be verified through third-party vendors like Carfax and others that use artificial intelligence to confirm the amount of miles provided by the agent with the actual miles that the driver is likely to be driving. In some cases this approach generates disputes because some parties believe they drive way less than what Carfax says.  The best way to overcome this is to provide proof of how much you actually drive by sending pictures of the odometer, providing service records, and the amount of miles on the car when it was purchased along with the purchase date. While this may be cumbersome to provide the information, it may save you money on your insurance premium, and it’s very likely to be way cheaper than buying car insurance on a per mile basis. Buying per mile basis for your car insurance would be like buying one channel at a time on your cable TV service. While this may work well if you don’t watch too many different channels, the reality for most of us is that we want to watch the program we want to watch regardless of what channel it’s on!
