A relaxing day in Rome sound like enjoying gelato while taking a stroll through the Trevi Fountain. The Trevi Fountain, Italian Trevi Fountain, Rome’s fountain which, as the most famous in the city of Trevi, is considered the Latin Baroque masterpiece. It was built in 1762 by Giuseppe Pannini, and completed by Nicola Salvi. Myth has it that those who drop coins into their waters are returning to Rome. The fountain is situated on the outskirts of Palazzo Poli in Rome’s Trevi neighborhood.

In the 17th century the site was destroyed by a previous fountain and in 1732 Nicola Salvi won a design competition for a new fountain. His job was a panoramic masterpiece. Pietro da Cortona was the main picture of the central triumphing arch with his mythological and allegorical figures, the natural rock formations, and the water of bubble was Salvi’s. The idea of combining the front and fountain of the palace originated from a plan.
The Trevi Fountain took about thirty years and Giuseppe Pannini, who slightly revised the original design, supervised the completion in 1762 following Salvi’s death in 1751. The massive well is about 85 feet (26 meters) high and 49 meters (160 feet) long. In the middle, the statue of Oceanus by Pietro Bracci, stands on top of a cart, drawn by sea horses. The well also has plenty and safety statues. It was long known as the sweetest and best tasting in Rome from the ancient aqueduct called Acqua Vergine; the barrels were delivered each week to the Vatican for centuries.
The water is not potable anymore, though. A number of books and films have included the Fountain of Trevi, in particular La Dolce Vita (1960) by Federico Fellini. The fountain for a major renovation was opened in 2014–2015. Coins are collected daily and donated to charities, which are poured into its water. So relax in Rome. Take a day to just stroll through and really get to admire all the amazing art and architecture Rome has to offer.
