San Francisco, CA – The Ultimate Top 10 Business Travel Tips from a Local Travel…

BY: MATT MEYER, ALL BUSINESS CLASS

Have an upcoming business trip coming?

Use these tips to make the most of your time away from home whether it’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip or if you’re frequently on the road for work.

The Ultimate Top 10 Business Travel Tips

  • Join rewards programs. Take advantage of your corporate travel to gain points or miles on your airline, hotel or travel credit card of choice. You should also choose a credit card without foreign transaction fees.
  • Use programs that speed up your travel. Check in to your flights online and print your boarding pass before heading to the airport. Apply for TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry to gain access to faster-moving security and customs around the world.
  • Plug in Before You Go: Charge all your gadgets 100% prior to departure to the airport. You never know if you’re going to have an airport outlet or in-flight access.  Buy a portable charger – it will save your life!
  • Try to Book Only Non-stop Flights. Face-it, layovers can ruin your trip. A mid-trip stop of two or three hours can mean spending an extra day on the road, waking up earlier than needed, or having a suitcase that didn’t make the same transfer you’ve made.  Do yourself a favor – book a nonstop flight.
  • Pack Some Workout Gear: You’ll have one less excuse to skip your workout if you pack those shorts, t-shirts and shoes. Working out after arriving reduces jet lag, stress, and provides business travelers with many other benefits.
  • Print out your important reservation numbers. While nobody wants to think about losing their mobile, the battery can run out just as you need your boarding pass or confirmation number. Print and hold a copy of your itinerary in each of your bags.
  • Take Advantage of Loyalty Programs: Fly on the same airline as much as possible, rent a car with the same rental company and stay on the same brand of the hotel. Have a back-up brand and use it with your preferred brand whenever you can’t move.
  • Pack healthy snacks. Traveling on your body is hard, and on the road you need to keep going even when you’re exhausted and starving. While walking or flying, those healthy snacks you dropped into your carry-on will help curb cravings and keep you from over-indulging in sweets.
  • Sign up for Global Entry and/or TSA Pre-Check. If you’re traveling around the world, invest in Global Entry. At Customs and Border Patrol at airports upon entry in the US, Global Entry offers quicker checks, less stress and more convenience. Global Entry’s cost is $100. If you only travel domestically, TSA Pre-Check is your friend. It can take up to 8 weeks to complete the process so plan ahead. Because TSA Pre-Check affiliation is useful for five years, the $85 charge is worth it.
  • Keep Organized: Stay on top of the organization of your laptop bag, carry-on and luggage. This involves cables, any medicines, documents, passports and anything else that tends to get thrown into pockets without thinking. The more your bag is organized, the less likely you are to losing or forgetting something. “A place for everything and everything in its place.” Some useful items to stay organized are packaging cubes, plastic bags, cord organizers and smaller travel bags.
