When designing a new logo or sign, creativity is key to coming up, and or branding a business. One way you can do that is by using creative fonts in your design. And boy do we have a palette to choose from.
If you look online, and ask Google 'how many fonts exist...?', the answer that you'll find is unclear. One thing that is very clear is there are A BUNCH to choose from...hundreds of thousands. Some are free, some you pay for, but they all do the same basic thing.
If you look around, you'll see tons of logos, and in many of those logos, will only be the name of the company typed out in a certain, decorative font. Sometimes that is all it takes to stand out. After all, look at THE HOME DEPOT's font. It's stencil for crying out loud, but I guarantee you, you wouldn't get the same feelings about the company if it was in script font. It is powerful stuff.
Font selection is important. Flow is important. When selecting a font for your logo, or even your next sign, think outside the box. For instance, when you look at campaign signage, sometime you will see normal ARIAL font being used, but the text is inverted. Meaning the text is highlighted, making it stand out more.
There are a few places you can get free fonts. But I have to warn you, if the site asks you to download a 'download manager' or make you perform a song and dance before they download, then it is probably too good to be true. Great way to get a virus, or a key-tracker installed on your computer.
Here are a few sites with free fonts that download right to your download folder...
