Many companies utilize banners. They are extremely popular, they look good, and the are economical. Banners can come in any size. From the very small to billboard size. That is correct, most billboards are graphically outfitted...using banner material.
Sometimes, depending on the banner application, you would want a solid piece of banner material (ex. a billboard, the exposure to weather and the sheer size would cause the sections to seperate) and other times, splicing two sections together work just as well as a huge section. Banners typically have a folded edge with grommets. There are a couple ways to mend the edge of a banner: hemming with a sewing machine, or using extremely sticky double sided banner tape. Both methods are good, simply depends on application.
When it comes to putting the content on the banner, there are two ways of achieving that. Direct Print or cut vinyl. There are trade-off's to both methods. With print, the image will stay up, but will fade with time (due to UV Rays, and weather exposure.) With cut vinyl, the image must be simple enough to 'cut out' using colored vinyl, but vinyl won't fade nearly as fast. And since the vinyl is adhered onto the surface of the banner, there is a possibility it may come unstuck over time. Like I said, they both have trade-offs.
This is the part of the blog where I'm going to tell you banners typically do not come with any kind of warranty.
Banners are said to be a 'temporary solution' to signage, and they are not appropriate for long term use. With that said, banners can indeed last a long time outside, but inevitably, will fall apart over time. With no warranty implied, depending on the environment, you *should* see at least 6 months out of a banner (depending on environment, mind you.) But most will see 1 to 3 years before needing a replacement.
While I'm on the subject of banners...this 'temporary sign solution (banner)' can't be laminated. I'm using the word 'can't' loosely because honestly it is very difficult to do it and have the laminate apply wrinkle free. Besides, lamination would double the cost of the banner, and laminating really won't cause it to last longer.
