You shouldn’t truly notice your transmission much, aside from the times when you must speed up or slow down when you are very nearly ready to switch gears. What kinds of services does my transmission need?
For reference, some BMW transmissions are sealed and some are not. The difference? A sealed transmission assumes you’ll never have to replace the fluid within. An unsealed transmission allows you to change transmission fluid more easily though it’s still best left for a professional. When looking at your BMW, the most obvious change will be the presence of a transmission dipstick for an unsealed transmission.
Some BMWs have a transmission fluid flush as part of their regular scheduled maintenance plan. Some do not. We’ll discuss your vehicle’s symptoms and scheduled maintenance plan with you to determine what is needed for your vehicle. A transmission flush is sometimes needed and involves removing all the old transmission fluid from the BMW, inspecting it for potential signs of wear, then replacing the fluid.
