Repairing an old sign in Pineville, NC for a Speedee Oil on South Blvd

BY: Your Name, Your Business

We were recently contacted by the owner of Speedee Oil Change, located on South Blvd in Pineville, NC. They had a problem with the face on one of their channel letters and some of the vinyl on two other signs was very worn, due to the sun hitting it most of the day. They needed a replacement for the letter “S” and also needed to have new vinyl produced for their existing logos. The letter “S” had come off and was destroyed when it hit the ground, possibly during a recent storm.

Speedy Oil (3)Speedy Oil (4)In the images to the left you can see where the letter “S” is missing the front and one of the two logo’s that have been in the sun too long. While the faces are attached using screws and edge cap, overtime the sun will dry out the edge cap and deteriorate the steel to where the face could possibly come off. This is not common, but can happen if you do not use enough screws to attach the face. The other picture is one that shows a sign that has been in the sun too long and just needs to be replaced. Since we were not the original people to produce and install this sign, we had to remove the letter “S” and make a tracing of it. Once we traced it out, we could then make another face for it. The second step to this process was to find the proper color of red that was originally used for the lettering. The worst thing you could do is not match it closely and have the new letter stand out like a sore thumb. So we actually took down one of the other existing letters, so we could match it as close as possible. Once we had the correct color, we cut out the letter and added new trim cap to it.

Speedee Oil finished

For the logo, we just needed to bring down the existing acrylic and remove the vinyl that was left on it and prep the surface, so that we could attache new vinyl and make it look like a brand new sign. So as you can see on the left, we were able to match the color very closely to the existing red and the new vinyl for the logo, made it look like a bran new sign for a fraction of the cost.

Speedee Oil has been in Pineville, for over 10 years serving local customers with a smile. They do great wok and always have a top of the line customer service. If you live in the southern Charlotte area or in Pineville, consider giving them a chance, the next time you need your oil changed in a hurry.

When working on existing signs, like we did for SpeeDee, it is important to use a reputable sign business that will take the time to match the colors as close as possible and ensure they do an inspection of the rest of the sign. Because if one section fell, it is likely others might fall as well. So while we were replacing this one letter, we also looked at the others and found one that did not have any screws left in it. This could have caused the customer some issues down the road, as this other letter was bound to fall one day as well.

If your sign is worn or weathered, and you would like to know if we can rework it or you would like to consider a new sign, give Tony or Pete a call at 704.626.7065. We would be more then happy to sit down with you to discuss what options are available for your particular needs.
