Election Is Causing Overwhelming Amounts Of Stress For Most People. Here’s 4 Tips To Help You Calm Down

Tips To Calm Your Nervous System And Get Some Stress Relief During This Election Season

70% of people say that the election is a huge source of stress for them. Another 77% say that they really fear the direction the country’s going in. No matter what side you’re on, tensions are running super high. When we’re under stress, we can experience insomnia, feel irritable, make poor decisions and have heart palpitations. Headaches are another common symptom, as well as, digestive issues.  All sorts of mental, emotional and physical symptoms can happen to us when we’re in a constant state of stress.

I wanted to share a couple tips with you to calm your system down, so you can feel more calm, even while tensions are running high. It’s important for you to know that what you do have control over is how you think, how you feel and how your behave.

Here are 4 coping tips that can help:

  1. Prepare in advance for this election. Prepare for things like delays with the final decision and the days and weeks afterward. Have a plan a, b and c, especially if the outcomes aren’t what you’d hoped for. Begin to prepare yourself. Create a list of things you can do that really matter to you, whether it’s getting out into nature and going on a hike, spending time with friends and family in whatever way is safe for you, spending time around animals. These are all healthy coping strategies.
  2. Create a self-care ritual for yourself, not only for right now, but after the fact, too. What are you doing to take care of yourself?
    • Are you getting enough sleep?
    • Are you eating well?
    • Are you exercising regularly?
    • Are you going on a media diet?
    • Are you meditating or practicing mindfulness?
  3. Stop doom scrolling. Go analog for a while. Read a book. Listen to some music. Remember, take control of your behavior. You actually have a choice to do it or not do it, so find some healthy distractions.
  4. Find inspiration wherever you can. There are absolutely uplifting stories out there. People are helping each other and supporting each other. From my humble perspective, I’m noticing growing sense of unity. I find it very comforting.

I hope you found some inspiration and encouragement in this article. Please feel free to reach out if you need any assistance, Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Sending you love, blessings and safety to you and your family. Lorie
