So last Sunday, we were setting everything in order, preparing to provide our clients with a great haircutting experience: warming up the towels, infusing them with Tea Tree for that famous eucalyptus scent, loading up the stations with a set of clean combs, guards and towels. After all we at Sport Clips believe that each client deserves a clean, fresh set of everything (unfortunately most barbers and salons don’t have the same standards!).
So here we are, preparing all the magic behind the curtains and the moment we open, right at 10:00AM on Sunday we have a first-time client. His name was Jack, and he decided to give us a try because the next day he had a job interview and he wanted to make sure he would look his absolute best.
We were of course flattered, but more importantly, committed to deliver to his expectations. He asked us what we thought would be a good haircut for him, and the first thing that we look at is the shape of his face which in this case had strong, straight lines basically delineating a semi-square. Our first recommendation was to trim back his sideburns as this was making his face look shorter. And Jack being 27 year old, and working in advertising, we thought that a messy pompadour would do the perfect trick of elongating the visuals of his face and at the same time giving him a touch of modernity. The messy pompadour has been around since the sixties and is now coming back strong. You may recognize it in the wildest photos you may have seen of James Dean or these days, even David Beckham.
In our view, the trick to perfect execution of this cut is on the finishing touches (the “messy” part!). In Jack’s case we recommended to him complementing his haircut with American Crew’s defining paste. We thought it would work well for him as it can be applied on damp hair (his hair tends to frizz) and has almost no shine at all.
