Unique hair type, length, volume, colour and texture. Folks that are thinning out at the crown ask us to do our best to make them look like they have mop of hair. Understandable. And clients from different ethnicities ask if we understand their particular hair type. They are completely right in asking this question, as it’s key to know how to bring out the best in each hair type if we want to give our client a championship haircut. Which brings us today to textured hair, black hair or African-Canadian hair. It doesn’t matter how you call it, what matters is how to make it look its best! First, a bit of brushing is a great start. Brushing it from the inside out. Second, after determining the length at which we want to cut, we prepare the clippers with the proper guard size. At Sport Clips only, you get a fresh set of guards each and every time, nobody else does this! We like to apply at this point a little bit of Tea Tree to make hair more manageable. Then dividing the head in six zones we work on each independently. We cut against the  growth direction for lower cuts. Afros can be done in any direction. When all six zones are done we have to even them all out, sometimes using shears. Finally we are down to sides and back which is always better with no guard.
