Sales tends to be a career that a lot of people find intimidating. They imagine the once grueling door-to-door selling of phone books, encyclopedias, and kitchen knives or a scene set in a high-rise building full of cut-throat individuals trying desperately to close a deal and then high-fiving their neighbors when they do. While both scenarios are certainly real, they aren’t the realistic for most individuals.

Nearly every company has an element of sales. Sometimes it is under a different name like business development, but the objective is the same: to obtain new clients.

In industries like financial advisors, sales is essentially the lifeline of the business; without it, it cannot be successful. This is why I created a comprehensive sales training tailored for financial advisors. My name is Wayne Townsend and I am a certified FocalPoint Business and Executive Coach with an unyielding passion to help you thrive. I consistently work with a variety of small and mid-size firms to help them achieve their goals and profitably grow their practice.

Do I really need sales training?

Simply put, if you want to continue to grow or even sustain your business, you need to know how to bring in new customers. The business world can change at the drop of a hat and it’s important to have a strong foundation to deal with those difficult situations without taking on too much damage. Over the last couple of years, we have been reminded of the important of this lesson; some of you may still be recovering from the whiplash.

So, do you need a sales training? It ultimately comes down to your goals as a business and as a financial advisor. Are you completely happy with the sustainability of your company? Do you have contingencies in place if you (God forbid) lose half your client base over night?

I understand that it can be difficult to financially invest in yourself and your business at times; but, if you could learn to be more efficient and effective at bringing in new business, why would you not? I am always willing to talk through prospective clients about the options that would work best for them.
