Electrical Problems

Like many FCA brands, Dodge products have more than their share of electrical problems, and the Charger is no exception. We have resolved many electrical complaints in our shop that lead to alternator failure as the source of the problem. Often Charger drivers noticed a burning odor followed by a complete electrical shutdown. Other drivers reported a “battery saver” light on the dash; the Charger shifted itself into neutral and stopped with the engine running. The OEM alternators themselves seem to be the problem, and we will find a reliable source with a warranty for the long-term reliability of your Charger.

Defective Fuel Tank

Many Charger drivers reported a gasoline smell following the filling of the tank. Some recounted a check engine light happening simultaneously. This problem can only be resolved by replacing the fuel tank.

Erratic Power Steering

Modern cars have electric power steering assist. This technology is good because it improves gas mileage but bad because it stops operating when you have an electrical problem. Many Charger drivers have brought their cars in with erratically acting power steering. In such a heavy car, this is a serious complaint. We usually need to replace the entire mechanism to resolve this difficulty.

Transmission Shifting Problems

Our Charger owners have brought us issues with the automatic transmission taking a long time to shift between gears. The engine would rev up and then bang into the next gear. Since modern automatic transmissions are computer controlled, there is a reset procedure like rebooting your home computer, but this has not often solved the problem. With our state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, we find bad powertrain control modules, cracked valve bodies, and internal damage from overheating to be the cause of this problem. If you are fortunate, a low transmission fluid level may be the culprit, but you would probably have noticed red fluid spots on your driveway, a sign of an ATF leak.

Oil Leaks

Premature engine failure is an all-too-common problem of late-model Dodge Chargers. Like many cars, Chargers are susceptible to oil leaks. Besides the usual worn-out gaskets, we find cracked oil filter housings to be a commonplace cause of oil spots in your driveway. The instigator of engine failure can be low oil level caused by a leak or low oil pressure caused by the cracked oil filter housing.

Failed Thermostat

The thermostat adjusts the engine temperature by controlling coolant flow around the engine block and heads. Thermostats can stick open or shut, resulting in overheating or underheating. Both are harmful, as a low engine temperature will result in more significant smog emissions, sludge buildup, and a failure on your next smog test. Overheating will cause the failure of essential components and even require an engine rebuild. Charger-owning customers have brought their car in with a check engine light we trace to a failed thermostat.

Suspension Problems

When you make a sharp turn, a squeaking noise may emanate from the steering rack. Suspension noise also may be worn parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends, or perished bushings. These parts are critical for your safety as you drive at highway speeds. Our mechanic will find the worn part and replace it cost-effectively to get you on the road in a quiet and safe Dodge Charger.
