What can cause AC problems?
- Replacement gas/fluid leakage
- AC compressor pump not engaging
- Electrical supply
- On off switch
- Dirty or constricted condenser
- Compressor drive belt broken
Replacement Fluid problems
The air-conditioning system uses a specialized gas that is known as Freon on the old vehicles and R410A or Puron on the newer vehicles. This gas is used to transform hot air into the cold air and if this system has a leak, it will not cool as needed.
Ac compressor pump not engaging
The compressor puts high pressure on the gas inside to circulate through the system and transfer hot and cold air. When this pump is not engaged there will be no cooling or heat transfer. The compressor clutch could be faulty.
Electrical supply
The air-conditioning unit needs to have an electrical supply to make it operational. A bad wire or insufficient current supply could be the reason for the system not working. A defective on / off switch might be able to hinder system current.
Dirty or constricted condenser
The condenser takes the high-pressure gas from the system and converts it into a fluid. By doing this it cools the air you need. Heat will always move from warmer to cooler and this principle makes the whole system operational.
Compressor drive belt broken
The compressor is supposed to provide high pressure to the system so that the gas can be circulated through the air-conditioner unit. The drive belt moves the clutch pulley and in turn, moves the air. No belt, no cold air. A worn belt will break eventually. Replacing the belt will have you operational in no time.
Safety and hazards to consider
The gas used inside of the air-conditioning system is hazardous to the ozone layers and you need to be a certified dealer to be able to know how to get rid of the damaging effects. A leaking system can be harmful to the environment. Disposing and storing these liquids have codes and regulations governed by law. It is always advised to wear the necessary protective equipment when working on the air-conditioning unit. Safety goggles and gloves can protect your eyes and hands from the spillage of chemicals and substances. Make sure to have this inspected by a registered dealer. M&R auto is registered and legal as per law to deal with the hazardous gas for the vehicle’s air-conditioning unit.
