Are you sure your Mercedes-Benz is getting the due care it deserves?

Find a reputable auto shop to address any concerns.

As a product of German engineering, Mercedes-Benz is among the most respected and popular automotive brands around the globe. There’s a reason why its vehicles have been involved in the motorsport world, particularly in activities like Grand Prix racing, sportscar racing, rallying, and touring car racing. These cars rarely face any issues, precluding the need for frequent auto repair visits.

But this doesn’t mean Mercedes-Benz vehicles are impervious. Like other cars, they’re subject to wear and tear and other issues requiring regular maintenance and repairs. Regardless of which Mercedes-Benz model you own, look out for the following common repair issues:

Engine Mounts

The oil-filled engine mounts in Mercedes-Benz vehicles are designed to prevent vibrations from transmitting to the cabin. At about 100,000 miles, they begin failing and losing oil. When this happens, you’ll sense excessive vibration on the steering wheel, cabin, and seat, so you know when to respond. Engine mount replacements typically take around four to six hours.

Transmission

Although the five-speed automatic transmission is robust and well-built, a chain can only be as strong as its weakest link. This phenomenon applies to Mercedes-Benz transmissions. It’s true that the transmission itself is bulletproof, but it’s the valve body and 13-pin connector issues that have damaged the reputation of Mercedes-Benz. The good news is these issues are relatively inexpensive, and they can be resolved without needing to remove the transmission.

Suspension Components

When your Mercedes-Benz completes 60,000 miles, certain components that are crucial to the functioning of its suspension system may start failing. These can include the sway bar links, ball joints, control arm bushings, and tie rods. If not addressed, the problem can misalign the steering wheel.

Rust

Another common repair issue for Mercedes-Benz is rusting on the underside and the body of the vehicle. The problem is most prevalent on Mercedes S-Class, E-Class, and C-Class models. Ignoring the situation allows the rust to spread to other parts of the vehicle. If you don’t wish to compromise the integrity of the rest of the vehicle and face costly repairs down the road, stay responsive to the slightest signs of rust and get them treated as soon as possible.

Oil Pressure Switch Malfunction

If you begin noticing minor issues like failure of O2 sensors or a continuous check engine light, chances are your Mercedes’s oil pressure switch is leaking. The models that come with the V12 engine are particularly susceptible to this issue.
