Do you suspect brake issues in your vehicle?

Watch out for brake problems and hire a reliable brake repair specialist.

Safety comes first. The single most important feature in any car isn’t the infotainment system, aesthetics, or horsepower —it’s the brakes. Servicing your brakes is something you can’t afford to neglect.

Brakes have many components, each of which will wear out over time and need to be replaced. The most common kind of brake problems stem from wear and tear in the brake pads, brake shoes, brake fluid, and rotors. The brake booster, proportioning valve, brake line, master cylinder, and wheel cylinders cause fewer issues.

Understanding the warning signs of brake failure helps you act quickly.

Common Signs of Brake Issues

Car Pulls to One Side: A car that pulls to one side is not only annoying but also dangerous. This problem can have other causes, such as tire issues, but if it’s being caused by your brakes, the culprit is often a worn-out caliper problem or a faulty brake hose. You’ll experience unbalanced stopping because the brake caliper on one side could be applying more or all of the pressure while braking.

Grinding Sound While Braking: When you apply the brakes, you may hear a grinding sound. If you go for too long without servicing your brakes, the pads will wear out. Once you hear metal on metal, that’s a sign that grooves have been created in the brake motor. Vehicles with rear drum brakes may also face a lack of lubrication, which can lead to grinding. Metal contact points on the brake shoe, like the backing plate, could also be scraping due to rust.

Warped Brake Rotors: When you feel that your vehicle is shaking or shuddering upon when you brake, then it’s probably your rotors. In a standard braking system, a caliper clamps down on the rotors, and the resultant friction slows down the vehicle. Over time, the surface of these brake rotors can warp. Deposits of brake material accumulate and the rotor becomes damaged by debris. This means you’ll either need to get the rotors resurfaced or replace them with brand new ones.

Soft Brake Pedal: If your vehicle’s brake pedal sinks to the floor with little or no resistance or it feels squishy and won’t press all the way down unless you pump it, you’re in a potentially dangerous situation. Stop driving immediately to prevent the risk of a collision. A soft or sinking brake pedal indicates a braking system leak. The master cylinder could be leaking internally or externally. You should immediately check the brake fluid and seek brake repairs.
