Project: Repair water damaged bathroom ceiling and mold remediation

Recently, we were contacted by Howard G. of Furlong, PA because his vent pipe roof gasket was leaking into the upstairs bathroom, causing damage to the Sheetrock. In addition to the water damage, several of his family members take long hot showers. Since there are no windows, the small ventilation fan was having to work over time to remove the excess moister caused by the extensive hot showers. This caused mold to grow above the shower area.
On several occasions Howard tried to remove the mold himself using everyday cleaning products, which he bought over the counter at his local hardware store. In addition, he used latex paint to cover the mold and water stains which only temporarily solved the issue.
Frustrated with the situation, Howard contacted several mold remediation companies who provided varying remediation solutions. Since the area affected was less than 2 sq. ft., drastic measures were not called for. One remediation company quoted to remove all of the Sheetrock, even the unaffected areas. After an intensive investigation, we concluded there was a less expensive solution to the problem.
