Hey guys, Brennen Unnerstall with Spectrum Cleaning and Restoration. So I went to the grocery store this week, and while I was there, I saw this young man attempting to sanitize the shopping carts. I really appreciate the effort that he was making and you know, that the grocery store was making to sanitize these carts and try and keep us all safe with the COVID pandemic.
I asked him what he was using and he wasn’t quite sure, but I stood there and watched him for a minute. And he was basically taking this bucket full of some sort of chemical or disinfectant and a rag. He was wiping down the handles and then dunking the rag and wiping the handles and dunking the rag.
I’ve actually seen this at a couple of different places. And I just wanted to point out that, unfortunately, while the effort is there and I appreciate it, the way in which they’re doing this is not really effective. And I’ll explain why. In doing this, he’s diluting that chemical down and is actually now cross contaminating, taking what was on this shopping cart, putting it into the mixture and then applying it to another shopping cart.
So it’s not effective and it might actually be more dangerous than not doing anything at all with this cross contamination. So when we go out and sanitize, we are using a device called a ULV fogger, and we load that up with a disinfectant. A plant-based disinfectant, which is extremely safe. And then the machine breaks the particles down to a very fine mist. And then we apply that to whatever surface or structure that we’re sanitizing. There’s no cross-contamination this way. And we can actually apply it to a much more of that surface than wiping would. I am so happy to see so many businesses being proactive and taking steps to sanitize and keep everybody safe during these challenging times with Covid.
But if you’re not doing it correctly, then you might as well not be doing it at all. We want to help as many people as we can so that we can end this pandemic sooner, rather than later, I want our country to get back to normal. I want everybody to get back to work. I’d like everybody to be healthy.
So we are asking for your help, if you know anybody that works at an office or a grocery store or any kind of shop. Maybe a nursing home or senior living facility, a daycare, a school, a restaurant or bar. We can help them. We can help them sanitize and do it correctly so that we can end this thing sooner.
