Fort Myers, FL – What to Expect from Spectrum Cleaning During Mold Remediation

BY: Your Name, Your Business

What to Expect During Mold RemediationSo you’ve found mold in your home and you need to have it remediated. No two remediation processes are like. This is because we must adapt our remediation methods depending on how far the mold has spread and how much damage it has caused. However, at Spectrum Cleaning & Restoration of Fort Myers, FL , we use the following checklist, adapting it slightly depending on how much damage your home has:

  • First we must address and repair the water problem, whether it’s a leak from plumbing or appliance issues inside, or your home has been flooded due to storm or roof leak issues.
  • Next we isolate the contaminated areas of your home by putting protective sheeting on doorways and windows if the issue came from outside. We will use tarps to close off entire rooms if they have mold present. This allows us to keep non-contaminated areas from getting contaminated by mold spores that may become air born during cleanup. Check the remediation plan to ensure all areas are properly isolated.
  • We will spray a mist to suppress dust and mold spores from becoming air born while we are cleaning.
  • Dispose of contaminated materials like wet, porous, organic materials in plastic bags. We make sure to double bag them and take them outside to your trash can. All bags are wiped with a cloth damped in a detergent solution to prevent mold spore spread.
  • We then clean all non-porous materials and wood surfaces with disposable wipes and properly bag the mold-soiled wipes for safe disposal.
  • We clean mold-affected areas with our special detergent solution and we use a HEPA filter vacuum.
  • We do a visibility test by scanning the area to ensure no dirt, dust or mold can be seen with the naked eye. We then double-check the remediation plan to ensure all areas are cleaned.
  • We allow everything to dry overnight with fans and dehumidifiers.
  • Using thermal scanners and moisture scanners, we confirm the mold is no longer present and no new mold is growing, and we make sure everything has been dried thoroughly.
  • While we don’t do construction work, we can recommend general contractors to replace materials that were removed, and repair damaged areas.

After Mold Remediation is Complete

Indeed, mold remediation is an arduous process. Just because it was initially successful to the naked eye doesn’t mean that it was 100% successful. Your home may appear dust, dirt and mold-free, but can you so for certain the problem was solved? The short answer is no.

Remember the problem is caused by moisture and condensation. A qualified remediation specialist always takes one last step is to determine if the clean-up efforts were a success. Mold remediation specialists want to make sure the moisture problem has been fixed completely. This step can be easily completed by having your mold remediation specialist revisit your home.

Not long after the initial mold remediation process has been conducted, your mold remediation specialist should make sure your home shows no signs of:

  • Reoccurring or new water damage
  • Mold
  • Musty odors
  • Moldy materials
  • Homeowners suffering from aggregated allergies
  • Homeowners experiencing respiratory aggravations
  • High humidity levels

If these issues continue to be a problem, the mold remediation process starts anew until the source is identified and the problem remedied.
