Is it our nation’s current love affair with shows like Yellowstone that is making us nostalgic for rustic earthy table settings? Perhaps it’s our desire to reconnect with nature? Hardy earthenware and stoneware in rough textures and crackled finishes have become popular table setting choices perfect for everyday or entertaining.
From the 1920s to the 2020s
The Art Deco design originally created in the 1920s is an opulent historical trend making a showing right now. In counterpoint to the casual everyday look, this plateware is decorated luxuriously in a glamorous way with geometric patterns and monochromatic coloring. The timeless look is often created in minimalistic black and white, and often has silver or gold accents. Perfect for impressing guests at a lovely dinner party!

A fun way to create this charming kind of table is to mix and match different place settings. Of course you don’t want to create a chaotic look, so when buying vintage place settings of different types, create cohesion by choosing a specific color scheme or pattern. It could be plates that all have a blue and white pattern, like Blue Onion, or perhaps all the plates on the table have a small floral pattern, but in different shades. Try to stick with dinnerware that is all made of similar material, such as all porcelain or all stoneware, to have the table feel more cohesive.
