Why stop at just half the picture when you can ensure that you prevent all the cumulative risks involved with repetitive motions. These types of diseases can occur over time and affect muscles, nerves, ligaments, and tendons by doing the same motions again and again. We are creatures of habit and that is what makes us efficient. So be sure to protect yourself against a repetitive motion injury such as carpal tunnel syndrome or lateral epicondylitis through proper biomechanics and techniques that have the possibility to turn into great habits. Working from home has it's benefits. It saves in travel costs and time which is good for reducing stress in the long run. Fighting traffic and stuck in a static posture is not good for the body. Being able to move as needed improves cardiovascular health as we know static postures impairs our metabolism. A lot of time, we oversee the ergonomics behind why it's beneficial to work from home. Also, any time you come into work, you have the possibility of passing around any kinds of bugs. Especially in the wintertime, or flu season, this can be significant. Technological advances have made working from home a reality and working from home should not change your performance. People should have the motivation and focus to work without supervision and fulfilling duties in a timely manner. This gives employees more control over their workday and allows them to spread out work as needed with proper breaks that can get blood moving in the body again. It's best for the mind too as it keeps away office politics. It can lead to a less stress and reduced blood pressure according to a review of academic literature. Generally speaking, people with more responsibilities at home such as taking care of a child or cleaning the home, tend to be more stressed working from home. The best thing to focus on is how you allocate your time when on the clock. Since some studies show that employees working from home tend to be more sedentary, it is important to take active action to prevent this and get needed movement throughout the day. Focus on your health and getting only your office work completed. Take frequent breaks every 30 minutes if possible to stretch, walk around, do little tasks around the house to ensure your blood stays moving and you are keeping your energy up.
